Rosemary
Rosemary is a San Diego favorite for easy, low water food plants. It is also beautiful, with small purple flowers in winter-spring and robust grey-green foliage. It is native to Mediterranean hills, Portugal, and NW Spain. In Latin rosmarinus translates as ros- “dew” and marinus “sea”. The width and height of a sturdy rosemary plant can both be 10 feet. There is a creeping variety that stays low, about 2-3 feet. Some varieties have better flavor than others, and the flowers are edible.
