Pomegranate
There are hundreds of varieties of pomegranate, some are white and have no sour flavor to them, some are more or less seeded, some have a red color so deep they are named black. The flower color usually resembles the unique fruit colors or qualities. Usually a slightly deciduous tree, sometimes pomegranate can be evergreen. Flowers are edible, and used as dye agents, and are orange-red. Leaves are green-yellow. The trees are native to Central Asia from Iran to the Himalayas. This is one of the best choices for gardeners in San Diego who want low water fruiting trees. The height of pomegranate trees are 15-20 feet and the width the same. With age the trees grow out of a bush shape to take on a more vase like shape. Pomegranate trees will change their shape when thin branches are borne with heavy fruits that blow the shape from tree shape to bush shape.
