Passionfruit

There are hundreds of varieties of passionfruit and most do not set fruit without a mate. Many varieties are grown at the San Diego botanic garden and the bulk of these are pollinated by hand. Of the different types of passionfruit some are larger, smaller more sour and sweeter. Passionfruit ranges from SE North America to Northern South America. Also the Caribbean, Madagascar, edges of wooded areas, thickets, and fence lines. Passiflora incarnata is the most useful medicinal plant in the genus. The height of the evergreen perennial vine is 25-30 feet with a width of 30 feet. Lobed, shiny leaves are used as tea by many tea companies. Flowers are edible and are purple to white
