Juniper
Juniper trees are everywhere in San Diego, as an evergreen tree they lend our city their beauty and shade. There are many popular varieties of Juniper, and the most common is probably Hollywood Juniper, named for its frequent use in old movies. The trees have berries that are used in production of gin: taste or smell the ripe blue berries on the tree and you’ll see why. Juniper is a useful hardwood, and the wood has a pleasant fragrance when cut. In San Diego these trees are easy to grow with little or no water and they don’t cause destruction of cement, sidewalks etc.
